EXCERPT
On the drive home, Ginnie
stared unseeing out the backseat window of Buzz’s truck. Trees flew by
unnoticed on the country roads that led to their nine-generation old farm,
“Heart of the Wests.”
She stared past the
knee-high cornstalks on her left and the neck-high alfalfa lining the right
side of their lane, quickly creating and discarding several arguments to
convince Dad to give the journals back.
While Toran and Tillie
plotted to retrieve a treasured amulet in Toran’s new computer game, Ginnie
realized that simply talking to Dad wasn’t going to get her what she
wanted after all.
She needed action, so
she formed a new plan.
It didn’t take long to work
out the details. Normally at least two of the five family vehicles were parked
side-by-side in front of the two-story red-brick farmhouse they called home.
Today only Miss Amanda’s silver-blue car and several pairs of dried, muddy ruts
greeted them.
That never happened.
Her plan could succeed.

When Monique Bucheger isn’t writing, you can find her playing taxi driver to one or more of her 12 children, plotting her next novel, scrapbooking, or being the “Mamarazzi” at any number of child-oriented events.
Even though she realizes there will never be enough hours in any given day, Monique tries very hard to enjoy the journey that is her life. She shares it with a terrific husband, her dozen children, an adorable granddaughter, a son-in-law, three cats, and many real and imaginary friends.
