Book Tour, Review & Giveaway: 100 Little Lambs by Sierra Wilson, illustrated by Danika Runyan

My rating: 4 stars / I really liked it

Synopsis

Clover the Lamb is always up to mischief, but when she wanders too far and cries out for help, she learns the love and help of her Good Shepherd are always near.

100 Little Lambs is a playful read-aloud with heart, teaching young readers about the parable of the lost sheep and the constant love of their Savior.

My Review

This is a sweet book of the lost sheep, who is cheerfully illustrated as a mischievous little troublemaker with a tendency to wander off. The other ninety-nine sheep also have anthropomorphic qualities that are focused on grooming, dancing, and safe behavior. The rhyming verses have a singsong quality which would make it fun to read aloud to a child. While the text doesn't delve too deeply into the gospel principles, it does cover the basic premise that Jesus will rescue us when we need His help. It provides adults and children with the opportunity for further discussion, and I can see how young children would enjoy the simple illustrations. A wonderful gift, especially with Easter around the corner!

Book Tour, Review & Giveaway: My Testimeny Tree by Sierra Wilson, illustrated by Nicole Koa

My rating: 5 stars / It was amazing

About the Book

My testimony is special.

It's the spiritual things I know.

And just like a tree,

Every day I'll help it grow.

From tiny seed to strong, fruitful tree, a testimony is something that must be nurtured and cared for your whole life through. With beautiful illustrations and poetry, this story of faith helps children understand what a testimony is and how to help it thrive, bringing them closer to Heavenly Father and the Savior.

My Review

I loved this sweet book! It takes the metaphor of growing our testimony like a tree, and focuses on simple actions children (and adults!) can do to nourish spirituality. I appreciated that it defined a testimony first, as "the spiritual things I know." The illustrations are adorable, and help visualize the connection between the two parts of the metaphor. The message that a testimony is something to be developed during a process of faithful choices is vital for our children to learn. and This is a wonderful book that is perfect for young to older Primary aged children. I'll be bringing our copy to church for my daughter to read during sacrament meeting on Fast Sundays especially. My Testimony Tree would make a great gift!

Book Tour, Review & Giveaway: The 12 Days of Easter: Learning Easter Symbols by Sierra Wilson

My rating: 3 stars / I liked it

Synopsis

Celebrate the Easter holiday with a new, faith-focused twist on the classic Christmas carol, The 12 Days of Christmas.

The 12 Days of Easter features cheerful illustrations and highlights a different Easter symbol on every page. Additional backmatter teaches children and families about the meaning behind traditional Easter symbols with an emphasis on Christ and the resurrection.

A perfect holiday gift and read-aloud to enjoy every Easter season!

My Review

It was pretty fun to read this book with my daughter, and the repetition in the style of The Twelve Days of Christmas had her joining along. I loved hearing her repeat the most-used phrase, "Jesus Loves Me!" This is a colorful book with simple illustrations (a bit unrefined for my taste), and highlights 11 symbols that relate to Christ and/or Easter. The explanation of the symbolism isn't given until the end of the book in an afternote, and I would have preferred them being part of the text, so the meaning could be associated with the imagery. I think making the connection would be challenging for younger children, but older children could more easily comprehend it. Including a boy character would have made it more appealing to both genders as well. This book would be a meaningful addition to an Easter basket and can be read year after year.

Book Tour, Review & Giveaway: 10 Little Disciples by Sierra Wilson

My rating: 4 stars / I really liked it

http://www.amazon.com http://www.barnesandnoble.comhttp://www.bookdepository.comhttp://www.goodreads.com

Synopsis

Ten little disciples walking in a line.
One stops to lend a hand...
now there are nine!

Follow along as ten little disciples practice serving others and loving like Jesus in this rhyming, counting tale of true discipleship.

My Review

This is a sweet book appropriate for young children that illustrates how they can be a disciple of Jesus. I liked the examples it gave and the scripture references with thought provoking questions at the end of the book. I can see the discussion about following Jesus it would prompt when being read together with an adult. The counting and rhyming make it appealing and fun. The illustrations are pretty basic, but also cute and colorful. It's an important topic for Christians of all ages!
