Synopsis

My Review

I loved this unique Regency reading experience! The setting of India was a character in itself, and the authors descriptions were vibrant and blended in to the narrative without becoming overlong. Seeing the country and culture through Helen's experiences added a feeling of wonder and appreciation since she savors the new and interesting aspects of her journey. She begins somewhat naive, but because of her observant and open nature she embraces the differences. Her friendship with Captain Rhodes helps her to become more confident since he has a deep love for India and they feel a connection. She is musical and has developed melodies representing members of her family. She hasn't been able to write one for herself however, and hopes to discover her song on this life-changing journey. I also enjoyed the gentle romance between Helen's mother and stepfather that serves as an example to Helen of what it means to love. A beautiful story of discovering what is truly important.

My Review

A little slow to start but what an adventure! I was glad that the story began with a bit about Anna from before she lost her memory so I felt like I knew her even though she didn't know herself. The author did a wonderful job of revealing further attributes of her character through the situations and difficulties she faced on Jamaica. Phillip did not make a good first impression on me but he also had some refining experiences at the plantation which made the strength and goodness of his personality shine. The setting is one that is unique in my reading experience and I felt that I learned some history of the time, how plantations were run, the sad reality of slave labor and the perceptions held by society in Jamaica during the period. There are several friends that Anna and Phillip make which give great dimension to the story. Ezekiel, the young black boy who serves in the household is my favorite, he is just one to make you smile :) The danger and action that takes place in the latter part of the novel is well placed and makes the ending an exciting one. The romance between Phillip and Anna lacked tension but was sweet, especially as they came to rely on each other. I especially enjoyed when Phillip would surprise Anna by asking her opinion on a weighty matter and value the perspective she offered.

She goes to the Santa Monica Pier to do just that, but her plans get sidetracked after meeting Michael and feeling an immediate connection to him. They grab lunch, and the more time they spend together, the more they discover that they have in common—including past romantic hardships. As the day wears on, Alexandria begins learn that her heart just might be able to find love again.

In Jennifer Moore’s captivating novella A HERO’S SONG, AnneMarie’s career as a romance novelist is skyrocketing and her agent books her on a late night talk show. The host gets her to admit that she was in love once, with a guitar player. Moments after her segment, Lance Holden appears on the same stage, to perform his newest song. Is it a terrible coincidence? AnneMarie hasn’t seen Lance ever since he broke her heart ten years ago, and she has refused to think about him again. When Fitz, the family’s chauffeur, picks her up at the airport, she wonders if every man in LA is model-gorgeous. When Jolie meets her two charges, she finds them adorable and needy. But it’s harder to hold onto her job than she thought with a hostile Mrs. James and her spoiled brother. Fitz becomes both the silver lining of her job and the man who just might convince her to stay in L.A.

In the delightful novella, A PLACE TO CALL HOME, by Sarah M. Eden, Ada is the best realtor around. The best. She prides herself in matching each client with the house that will fit all of their needs. She hasn’t failed yet. So when Craig hires her to find him the perfect condo for him and his son, Ada is up for the challenge. What she may not be prepared for is her unforeseen attraction to Craig, her immediate attachment to his nine-year-old son, and her heart telling her that it’s okay to take another chance.

My Review

I'm seriously addicted to these novella collections. I love reading them in between longer books and especially on busy days to get a quick fix. I enjoyed all these stories equally and the California setting was definitely close to home! The first one by Heather Moore was even set at a beach we go to frequently throughout the year and especially in the summer. It is impressive that the characters and plot are introduced quickly but in a way that doesn't feel rushed. It was easy to connect with the emotions of the main characters and even though the stories are often wrapped up before I'm ready for them to end, they are a pleasure to escape with :)

My Review

This is a sweet young adult Regency romance, with a feisty heroine trying to make her way through a season in London- conflicted by her family's expectations of an advantageous marriage to save their failing business and her own dreams for her life. Her friendship with "Carlo" provides relief from the judgements and pretensions of some of the other guests in the duke's home. While I didn't think it was well-done of the prince to willfully deceive Meg, his intentions are understandable. The book reads like a storytelling, which makes it a little more difficult to experience the emotions of the characters. The intrigues of war add tension to the plot as the prince is caught between a desire to find the abducted members of his royal family and remaining safe for the future of Spain. Recommend for young adults and adults who enjoy clean historical romance.
