Excerpt

Davey’s head leaned against him again and Cap put his free arm around the boy, tucking him in under his shoulder. Together they watched the still water. A ring of ripples appeared where a fish struck at an insect on the surface, and the little waves ran to the sandy mud at their feet.
“Do you miss your boy?”
Cap cleared his throat. “For sure, I do.” He had never gotten to know his son, to know if he would have been anything like Davey.
Davey pushed away from him and turned to look into his face. “You don’t have a boy, and I don’t have a daed.”
Cap nodded.
“Could you be my daed?”
His throat tightened. “I think your mamm would have something to say about that.”
“Not really my daed. We could pretend.” Davey’s grin was infectious, and Cap found himself smiling.
“Maybe we could.”
Davey threw his arms around Cap’s neck. “I love you, Cap.”
Cap’s cane pole dropped as he wrapped his arms around the small body. “I love you too, Davey.”

About the Author

jan drexler

Jan grew up surrounded by books and storytellers. With Pastors and Teachers populating both sides of her extended family, we aren’t surprised that she wanted to be a first-class storyteller herself.

Born and raised in Michigan, Jan is the descendant of Amish, Mennonite and Brethren immigrants who settled in Berks, Somerset and Lancaster Counties in Pennsylvania in the mid-1700’s. The descendants of these immigrants pioneered in Maryland, Ohio, and finally Elkhart and LaGrange Counties in Northern Indiana in the 1850’s.

During the years when Jan was raising and homeschooling their children, she and her husband moved nine times in thirty years, finally landing in South Dakota where they enjoy incredibly Michigan-like weather. A northerner is always a northerner!

The ideas for Jan’s books come from the stories told by her parents and grandparents, seasoned with a lot of research and imagination.

Love in Bloom Spotlight: Author Carol Ross & Giveaway!

Bachelor Remedy by Carol Ross

She’s the most unconventional woman he’ll ever meet… and the cure for a perennial bachelor? Raised by her healer grandfather, former army medic Ally Mowak knows her alternative approach to traditional medicine puts her at odds with most of her Alaskan town. That includes Tag James, the rugged transport pilot with the sprawling family and political ambitions. Ally couldn’t be more wrong for the aspiring senator. Then why does everything feel so right when they’re together?

“No." Ally looked offended. "And that’s not why you like me, either. We didn’t feel anything the first couple times we met, did we? Except for irritation. I didn’t even remember who you were at one point and you thought I was a crackpot. Maybe still do, a bit.”

This was true, mostly. “Crackpot is kind of a strong term,” Tag hedged.

She chuckled. “Don’t start pulling the political correctness card on me now. I know what you thought of me. And I thought you were just another arrogant know-it-all. I’m attracted to you because you’re not those things. You are confident and smart and incredibly thoughtful and kind. You love your family, and from what I’ve seen you’re extra good to them all, especially your sisters. You’re also a paramedic, a decent basketball player and an excellent pilot, and I’ll admit I find that particular skill set highly attractive.”

Toast. He was toast. How was he supposed to resist this—her? He was 100 percent certain he’d never been tested this way in his entire life. And he’d thought running for the senate was going to be his biggest challenge.

Carol Ross always creates characters and stories and romances that immediately capture your attention and keep you captive until you’ve read the last word. As for the story...dive in knowing you will get a fully developed storyline, wonderful characters all around, and an extremely satisfying happily-ever-after. Ross writes dialogue that is fresh, fun, and realistic just like the story itself.

Author Carol Ross

The daughter of what is now known as free range parents, she developed a love of the outdoors at a very early age. As a writer, Carol loves to breathe the life she has lived into the characters she creates, grateful for the “research material” that every questionable decision, adrenaline-charged misstep, and near-death experience has provided.

Lady Hannah's father has uncovered evidence exposing a French traitor to the Crown. Willing to do anything to silence him, the traitor's primary target has become Lady Hannah. Keeping her safe means locking her away from Society, but she refuses to stand idly by, letting others put their lives on the line to protect her. Instead, she will stop at nothing to learn to defend herself, even at the risk of losing Lord Jonathon’s protection, or his affections.

With a sinister scheme in play to collapse the English government from within, Lord Jonathon must protect Lady Hannah from the French spies intending to use her as a pawn in their game of treachery. But can he protect her from herself?
