Something sticky.

Missy Robbins’ bare feet met with the unattended residue of sugary liquid on linoleum. The subtle sucking sound it made as skin separated from floor was all too familiar.

Little Bit’s juice spill.Missy sighed. She’d dried it right away but had neglected to mop it for what, three days now? If it were warmer outside, the ants would have already found it. But they were all underground, hiding away and resting. On hiatus. No such vacation for mamas whose babies needed to be fed and bathed and bandaged no matter the season.
