Synopsis

In Dee Henderson's novella "Betrayal," Janelle Roberts is freed--thanks to people she doesn't know--after serving six years of a twenty-year sentence for a murder she did not commit. But a murderer is still at large, and Janelle needs to be somewhere safe with someone she can trust. She may not survive another betrayal.

In Dani Pettrey's "Deadly Isle," Tennyson Kent is trapped on the isolated island of her childhood by a storm surge, and she is shocked when the typically idyllic community turns into the hunting grounds of a murderer. Cut off from any help from the mainland, will she and first love Callen Frost be able to identify and stop a killer bent on betrayal before they become the next victims?

In Lynette Eason's "Code of Ethics," trauma surgeon Ruthie St. John saves the life of Detective Isaac Martinez. After a betrayal leads to him getting shot and then attacked while in recovery, Isaac is now a key witness determined to testify. But someone is intent on silencing him--and those around him--forever. Together, Ruthie and Isaac go on the run, desperate to escape the killers hunting him.

My Review

Wow! Each of these stories is amazing, yet so different from each other. I enjoyed them all equally and felt they complemented each other so well. The first story "Betrayal" from Dee Henderson is so fascinating, I loved seeing the process of a cold case break wide open at the hands of a couple of FBI agents who were in the right time at the right place. I thought it was interesting how it switched perspectives to show a broader view of the story. I appreciated that the conclusion was so realistic and didn't take the conventional approach that I expected.

"Deadly Isle" by Dani Pettrey was intense and had great romantic tension! The pace was swift yet the characters felt fully developed as they work to investigate and solve the mystery so tragically close to home. Teni and Callen have a history and the memories that surfaced while they helped each other during the raging storm brought a sense of belonging and relief.

"Code of Ethics" by Lynette Eason also had a fast pace and the sense of working against the clock. I liked that Ruthie was comfortable with law enforcement and their procedures because of her family, even though she is a doctor. There are twists and turns as she and Isaac dodge the killers while searching for the evidence that will prove his suspicions correct. I loved the attraction and bits of romance that were slipped in as Ruthie and Isaac got to know each other while also depending on each other for their lives.

Review & Sweepstakes: The Daily Question for You and Your Child: A Three-Year Spiritual Journal #PRHpartner

Heidi Reads... The Daily Question for You and Your Child: A Three-Year Spiritual Journal

My rating: 5 stars / It was amazing

http://www.amazon.comhttp://www.barnesandnoble.comhttp://www.bookdepository.comhttp://www.goodreads.com

Synopsis

A fun, thought-provoking 365-question guided journal and keepsake that sparks daily interaction with your child to create a memory book capturing your child's life, personality, and faith journey.

This interactive prompted journal allows a parent to create a keepsake of three years of their child's life. By answering each of the 365 questions together on the same date each year, readers will get a unique and precious picture into their child's feelings, development, and personality. Some of the questions focus on spirituality and the child's heart, while some are meant to capture their creativity, spirit, and sense of humor. All questions spark conversations and memories that span well beyond the pages of this book.

My Review

What a fun idea to ask your child the same question but with one year spanning each of the responses! And to have a full year of questions to ask- this is a priceless resource for bonding and really getting to know the creative mind of your child. I loved the array of themes for the questions, and can't wait to get started with my daughters. While some questions seem geared towards older kids, with a little explanation or adaptation they would work for younger kids as well. The majority are perfect for all ages. The quality of the book is great, it's a nice hardback with a slot for putting a family photo in the cover, and the pages are a good weight. This is an awesome activity keepsake that would make a thoughtful gift!

#FallIntoBooks #TearJerker

I absolutely loved the first book in the series, Yesterday's Promise, and fell in love with the two main characters. They have  quite a bit of hardships and struggles in this second book, and emotions were flying high! Since I felt such a connection to Collin and Katie I was definitely moved to tears as I read the twists and turns their journey took.

Synopsis

Scottish Highlands, 1700s:

Barely two weeks have passed since Laird Collin MacDonald first darkened Katherine Mercer’s doorstep and married her. Marriage has hardly been what she expected, given their grueling and adventurous days of travel to the Scottish Highlands. Along with the discovery that Collin’s twin Ian would like to see her dead, Katie must now face her own clan, whose chief wants to kill Collin and take her to wife himself. All because Katie possesses the Campbell gift of sight, passed down through centuries of her ancestors.

With little more than faith in her grandfather’s vision and her unique bond with Collin to guide her, Katie steps bravely into an unknown future, where the glimpses afforded her may bring more danger than direction. When the misuse of her gift takes Collin from her side, she is left alone and vulnerable. Help arrives in the most unexpected form as Ian MacDonald makes good on his threat to attack the Campbells and Katie learns that the bond between brothers and love knows no bounds.

Excerpt

(BRYCE)

THE PLAYERS: Bryce-The Lovesick Hero, Janelle (AKA Mom)-Bryce’s Mother, Cody-Bryce’s Twin Brother, Kennedy-Bryce’s Little Sister.
Paige and I used to be closer. I think she might have liked me back in middle school. But like Cody said, I was a chicken, so I never acted on it. By the time I’d become confident enough to say something, Jason Marcos had stolen her from me.
I parked Mr. Martin’s car in front of the house and walked into the kitchen. The first thing I did was reach for the plate of cookies. “I hope you plan on washing those hands before you eat,” my mother warned, even though her back was to me. People joke about parents having eyes in the back of their head, but my mom does—for real.
“Yes, I plan on washing them. I was just testing you,” I lied, heading for the sink. She scooted over to give me some room.
“Did you make it to the door this time?” she asked.
“Mom,” I hissed quietly. “You can’t ask me stuff like that when Kennedy’s home. She has ultrasonic hearing when it comes to gossip.”
“Relax; Kennedy isn’t here. She left with Cody.”
“I thought Cody was going to work?”
“Huh. She told me she was going to the café. Maybe he was dropping her off before he headed over.”
“Probably,” I replied, then paused before answering her question. “I didn’t even bother getting out of the car.” I sighed as I dried my hands and took a seat at the counter. “It’s hopeless.”
“That’s not the confident, optimistic son I gave birth to.” She frowned.
“No, that guy’s name is Cody. I got all the maturity, and he got all the confidence.”
Mom leaned on the counter and grabbed a cookie off the plate. “Why don’t you two make a trade? Some of his confidence for a little of your drive and determination.”
I chuckled. “It’s not only a confidence thing. It’s more about timing. Paige clearly isn’t over Jason yet. No matter how much I like her, nothing is going to happen until she is. I need some sort of sign.”
There was a gleam in her eye as she drummed her fingers on the counter. “You know, your dad and I went to see the psychic at the carnival last night. You could go tonight and have Madam Vorski read your fortune. Maybe she can tell you when Paige will be ready for you to make a move.”
I paused, sandwich inches from my mouth, then blanched before saying, “First of all, don’t say ever say the phrase make a move again. It sounds weird and gross coming from you. Second, you’re kidding, right? You want me to spend my hard-earned money on some scam artist? Who are you, and what have you done with my mother?”
Mom laughed. “No, I want you to spend my money.” She reached into her pocket, pulled out a twenty, and placed it on the counter in front of me. “It was kind of fun.”
“You’re seriously giving me twenty bucks to use on a psychic? You, the lady who makes me pay for my own gas, insurance, and cell phone.”
“Are you calling me cheap?” She frowned.
I gave her a dry look. “Are you denying it?”

Falling in Love Event: Author Danielle Thorne, Sale & Giveaway

Turtle Soup by Danielle Thorne

Sea turtles may be endangered but after an encounter with marine biologist, Jack Brandon, nothing will stop Sara Hart from naming her deli, Turtle Soup. When Jack takes a job at the Georgia Aquarium, Sara finds the environmental poster boy at her door, hungry and carrying a chip on his shoulder. Neither thinks the other has what it takes, until a scuba class reveals what lies beneath the surface.

"You really think you're too good for anyone, don't you?" Sara's voice shook. "That you're some kind of celebrity because National Geographic made you their cover boy? Well let me tell you something, Jack. I don't need a world seal of approval to help me sleep at night. I don't need looks or money to buy me a circle of friends, and I don't need some beach bum telling me what I am."

Looking embarrassed, Jack dropped her hands. In a low voice, he said, "If that's who you think I am than you can leave."

"Thank you," Sara shouted, "I will!" She flung the door open on the way. The planner was still in the middle of the hallway, a few pages hanging out of it. She gave it a vicious kick, and it smacked into the wall. "That's what I think about you and your stupid foundation," she shouted over her shoulder. She kicked it again and again until pages scattered everywhere.

He was still watching from his office door, looking like he wanted to shove a sock in her mouth. All around the office, people sidled into range to see more. Satisfied she'd humiliated him, she took the stairs to the ground floor. She wanted to be exhausted when she walked out of the place. She wanted to feel so tired, she would never have the energy to come back.

“Turtle Soup is a wonderful sweet romance full of humor and heartbreak, not to mention descriptions so vivid you can almost smell the soup…” E.A. West @Goodreads.com

“Clean romance, great stories, real people who you can relate to. Real problems. Real and raw emotions. I would recommend this book.” @Amazon.com

“…Sweet and sassy romance. The characters were richly developed…” @Amazon.com
