The effective, godly discipline of your son will require that you discipline yourself first. To train your son well, you must commit to lay aside distractions in your own life that will steal away the precious time you need to build a foundation for your son’s heart.
When you take the time to teach your son self-control and respectful obedience, you give him a truly wonderful gift. Not only will people likely be drawn to his well-mannered, obedient demeanor, but more importantly, you will cultivate within your son a heart prepared to submit to God’s authority.
